OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Oklahoma City Thunder’s injury list got longer and heavier Friday, when the team said center Chet Holmgren will sit for eight to 10 weeks and guard Cason Wallace went under the knife for a shoulder injury that could keep him out most of the season.
Holmgren’s right knee started bothering him on Oct. 25, though only mildly. After he saw specialists, the team chose a biological treatment for what turned out to be a small patellar tendon tear. That procedure took place Friday and went well, the Thunder said, and he is expected to recover fully.
Wallace hurt his left shoulder, tearing the labrum, in a game with the Los Angeles Clippers. Dr. Neal ElAttrache handled the repair Friday at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, with Thunder medical staff on hand.
The club did not give Wallace a return date. Instead, it said he will be checked again before the 2026-27 regular season wraps up, which leaves open the chance he misses nearly the whole year.
The news landed a day before the Thunder face the Houston Rockets on Saturday night and two days after Oklahoma City dropped a 120-96 decision to the Dallas Mavericks. To shore up depth, the club recently put Micah Peavy on a two-way deal, and guard Ochai Agbaji, a 6-foot-5 former Kansas standout with 263 games of NBA experience, is joining to fill the last open standard roster spot. The Knicks had waived him Oct. 15.
The two moves pile onto an early-season run of injuries for Oklahoma City, which has been working without forward Jalen Williams as well. The timeline puts Holmgren on track to rejoin the lineup around the turn of the new year at the earliest.
