OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Oklahoma City Thunder star Jalen Williams came through surgery this week on the broken leg and dislocated ankle he suffered Sunday, and the team says he will not be looked at again until late in the season.
The operation took place in New York City, where orthopedic surgeon Dr. Martin O’Malley handled the case as team doctors watched. It fixed a fractured left fibula and rebuilt ligaments in the ankle. General manager Sam Presti had disclosed the diagnosis earlier in the week, and the club said Williams will be re-evaluated before the 2026-27 regular season wraps up.
The injury came in the closing minutes of the Thunder’s 108-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Williams, known to fans as J-Dub, was fouled on a drive to the basket. His ankle twisted the wrong way when he came back down, and he left the floor on a stretcher.
Through three games he was putting up 13.7 points a game to go with 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Williams, the 12th pick in the 2022 draft out of Santa Clara, made the All-Star and All-NBA teams in 2024-25, but wrist surgery and hamstring trouble held him to 33 regular-season games last season. Over five seasons and 251 games, 238 of them starts, all in Oklahoma City, he has averaged 17.9 points a game, plus 4.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
Oklahoma City is also without guard Cason Wallace, who needed an operation to repair a torn left shoulder labrum. Even so, the Thunder had opened the season 4-0 before visiting the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night.
