EDMOND, Okla. — Shovels went into the ground Wednesday for a Tru by Hilton on Progressive Drive, ending an eight-year stretch without a brand-new hotel in Edmond since the Hilton Garden Inn arrived in 2018.
The building planned at 2865 Progressive Drive will hold 98 rooms, making it the city’s 14th hotel and its second-largest by key count. Developer Winedown LLC is steering a roughly $17 million build with Arvest Bank financing and Hilton as brand partner, and city planners expect 25 to 30 positions once doors open in early 2028.
Mayor Mark K. Nash told the groundbreaking crowd that visitor demand keeps climbing and that more rooms help local restaurants and shops capture overnight spending. Gabby Trad of Hilton Partners in Hospitality said the brand sees Edmond as a growing stop for business and leisure travelers who need another modern midscale option.
Council records from earlier this year show the Progressive Drive pad, north of Covell, cleared site-plan review along with a driveway spacing variance. City tourism staff project the property could draw 30,000 to 45,000 overnight guests a year and add more than $8 million in wider economic activity once it is running.
Nash shared the podium with Councilman Barry K. Moore, Winedown’s Rick Sosa and Arvest’s Lloyd Newton. The hotel will sit in the commercial pocket around Legacy at Covell and plans daytime breakfast service, an evening social hour and grab-and-go snacks for guests.
Visit Edmond staff say the city already draws millions of visitors a year, and they cast the Progressive Drive project as one more tool to keep weekend travelers in town overnight instead of sending them to neighboring markets.
