OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Over the weekend, the Oklahoma City Thunder made their first in-season roster change, cutting an injured rookie to make room for a defensive-minded wing.

Oklahoma City waived Otega Oweh on Saturday. The former Kentucky guard, 23, was picked 41st in the 2026 NBA draft and was on a two-way contract, but he ruptured his Achilles tendon in the team’s fourth preseason game and will miss the entire 2026-27 season without ever playing a regular-season game.

Later the same day, the Thunder filled the opening with Micah Peavy, giving him a one-year two-way deal. Peavy, a 6-foot-7 swingman, played at Georgetown before going in the second round of the 2025 draft. The Memphis Grizzlies let him go during their final preseason cuts.

As a rookie with New Orleans, Peavy appeared in 61 games and averaged 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 38% from the floor. His calling card is defense, especially against ball handlers in the pick-and-roll. He is also familiar with Thomas Sorber, his former college teammate with the Hoyas.

The other two-way slots belong to first-year guard Josh Dix and forward Brooks Barnhizer, who is in his second season. He can also play for the team’s G League affiliate in Oklahoma City.

The move adds depth for a roster already dealing with injuries. Nikola Topic and Sorber were sidelined to start the season, and the Thunder opened the year with an open roster spot. Coach Mark Daigneault often uses 11 to 13 players a night, and Oklahoma City is about to play its first back-to-back of the season.
